NEW - Birds of the Maine Backyard Pocket Guide!
Freeport Wild Bird Supply has just released a new publication, “Birds of the Maine Backyard,” a weatherproof, durable, eight-page folded guide to the 75 most common birds found in Maine’s backyards.
What is special about this guide is that it is wholly locally produced, featuring artwork by Falmouth High School senior, Luke Seitz. At sixteen years of age, Luke has already made a mark in the birding community - locally and beyond - with his passion for birds and talent as an artist. He has been named the American Birding Association’s “Young Birder of the Year”, participated in the World Series of Birding twice (winning the Youth Competition in 2009), and spent time in Ecuador volunteering as a guide and field assistant, just to name a few of his many accolades.
The text is by Derek Lovitch, author, guide, and co-owner of Freeport Wild Bird Supply. Layout, final design, and printing was adeptly performed by Waterfront Graphics and Printing of South Portland. This product was 100% locally inspired and locally produced.
The impetus behind this publication project was to produce an easy-to-use guide to birds for the thousands of backyard bird enthusiasts in the state. While there are other similar guides available, they are either mass-produced with inaccuracies in drawings and/or written information, or cover too broad of a region.
“Birds of the Maine Backyard” is just what it claims to be. It is specific to Maine, limits the species covered to what one is most likely to see in the yard (though this does cover more than just feeder birds), and contains accurate and accessible information, both illustrated and written.
This publication is available exclusively from Freeport Wild Bird Supply in Freeport.
